UPLB AstroSoc recently conducted a Basic Astronomy Camp at the Laguna State Polytechnic University in Sta. Cruz Laguna. This event is one of the traditional events done by the organization which is part of the Astronomy Awareness Project.

More than 100 pre-school and grade school students attended the event. The event comprises of lectures on The Moon, Jupiter, and some popular Constellations and Asterisms. Students learned some interesting facts about the said topics. A brief background of the Solar System was also taught.

Later that evening, three telescopes were setup and the kids enjoyed viewing The Moon and Jupiter. Teachers also joined the observation. It was their first time to see a planet and they were very delighted to see The Moon in great detail.

Even though the organization has limited equipment, we believe that this event was a good start to promote Astronomy especially in isolated towns.
