UPLB AstroSoc recently held its second quiz contest entitled "AstroPop II: A Quiz Contest in Basic Astronomy and Popular Culture" last September 7, 2011 at the IBS Lecture Hall. The Quiz Contest basically challenged the contestants' knowledge in astronomy and their scope of facts about general information. This year, 33 teams participated in the said quiz contest.

The quiz contest basically applied the common mechanics of other quiz contests but the AstroPop II had a twist on it to break the usual thrill. There were three different lifelines given for the participating teams in order to help them answer the questions easily on the difficult round, namely: 50:50, Initial, and Fill in the Blanks. The participants enjoyed using the lifelines since it was an innovation to the mechanics. As the contest progressed, the event reached the clincher round wherein two teams competed for the third place. A previous technical error on the encoding of the scores occurred but it was immediately resolved by the committee. The first place winner was given an amount of PHP 1,500. An amount of PHP 1,000 and PHP 500 were given to the second and third place winners, respectively. All the teams present were also given certificates of participation.

This recently held activity of the UPLB Astronomical Society was headed by the new members of the organization as part of the fulfillment of their membership process. This event brought the new members to the reality of being a true part of an organization through learning how to conduct an event, managing time wisely, and cooperating with the members of the organization as a whole. This event was a success and another AstroPop quiz contest is aiming to be held soon.
